Wilderness Medicine

Description:

The WFA course will help you prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

How to prepare:

WE PROVIDE: Learning Material, Instruction, Certification card in the mail.
YOU PROVIDE: Bag or backpack with everything you would bring on a normal hiking trip, clothing you can get stained cut to torn, and appropriate food for the day.
CLOTHING: Clothing you can get stained cut to torn recommend that you dress in layers. NO COTTON CLOTHING. COTTON IS A NEGATIVE INSULATOR, WHEN IT GETS WET IT GETS COLD AND STAYS COLD. We recommend fleece, polypro, polyester, and wool.

All students are required to have current CPR and AED training before WFA course date.  JBLM Fire Department runs free courses on post.
